1971 Chevrolet Chevelle “Heavy Chevy”
In 1971 the top of the line muscle car for the Chevrolet Chevelle lineup was the Super Sport. There was a problem though. Insurance rates for the SS were through the roof scaring off buyers. The answer was a new model called the “Heavy Chevy” introduced at mid-year. This model was a available with any Chevrolet engine except the 454, reserved for the SS model.
The Heavy Chevy only came as the base Chevelle sport coupe with bench seats, vinyl carpeting and no center console but with an upgraded suspension. The model run lasted only 2-years, so these cars are relatively rare.
This isn't your basic stock “Heavy Chevy.” The engine in this car is the 350 cu.in. V8 but is a 383 stroker and puts out a claimed 425 hp. It has stainless valves, 9:1 pistons with 2 Dart heads and MSG ignition. It features power brakes with discs in the front and rear drums. The wheels are American Racing “Torq Thrust” racing “mags”. The transmission is a floor mounted 4 speed.
The exterior is burnt orange with appropriate badging and cosmetic details for a “Heavy Chevy”
The odometer shows 60,909 miles but true mileage is unknown.
This very rare car is offered
