265/ 225
1956 was a make or break year for the Corvette. After the 1955 sales drubbing by Ford's Thunderbird (23 to 1), GM could have just walked away and chalked it up to experience. Instead GM went all in. The '56 was completely restyled. Its new body would have concaved sides that allowed for interesting two-tone paint schemes. It now had outside, no kidding, door handles; roll up windows, and an optional removal hard top. Gone was the 6 cylinder and automatic transmission was an option instead of standard. The soon to be famous small block” Chevy in 265 cid form could be ordered in power ranges from 210 hp to 240 hp.
The example offered for auction is a numbers matching vehicle that was restored 15 years ago. The “265” has a power rating of 225 hp. It is black with a red interior. It also has the “AUX” hardtop.
