The 1966 Ford Mustang GT K-code cars were a limited production High Performance edition of the popular Mustang. With a 289 cubic inch V-8 featuring upgraded pistons, cylinder heads, carburetor, lifter heads, and connecting rods this modified engine put out 271 HP. The upgrades didn't stop there. The entire drive train was designed to handle a high performance engine with a special clutch, drive shaft, rear differential and suspension.
Of course the GT-K code cars had special badges to help identify this special model. This car 2-door coupe has the K-Code Mustang special badge on its front fenders that read “HIGH PERFORMANCE 289”. There is also a High Performance 289 decal on top of the air cleaner.
Listed in the K-code register this is matching numbers car has been carefully maintained in great original condition by the devoted owner for the last 16 years. The stunning Emberglo color is the original paint color and has been redone in recent years. This is an extremely rare color that was used only in 1966.
The special Emberglo and Parchment colored interior vinyl is also known as the “Pony” interior because of the embossed ponies on the seats.
Because this is a performance-oriented vehicle it features a 4-speed transmission. For the same reason air conditioning and power steering were not available because they sap performance. To stop the car Ford used discs in the front.
This beautifully cared for car doesn't begin to reflect its mileage at 105,ooo actual miles.
Collectors and enthusiast are on the look out for these GT K-code cars. The production run was limited so they are hard to find so this car is highly desirable.
