Description
Chevrolet's first Nomad was a Corvette-based show car for the 1954 Motorama. The viewing public was very receptive to the vehicle, but General Motors' executives felt that the concept would work better on a regular size Chevrolet chassis. The classic Nomad debuted in 1955 as a high-line model on the new 115 inch wheelbase Chevrolet. Available with 6 or V-8 engines, it had a base price of approximately $2500. For the classic 1955-57 model years, Nomad production totaled approximately 20,000 units.
This 1957 Nomad has 66,800 actual miles and is equipped with the 190 bhp, 283 cubic inch engine, and Powerglide automatic transmission. It also has power steering, a push button radio, and a clock. The car was stripped to the bare metal and given new paint in the factory correct colors of Canyon Coral and India Ivory. An award winner at Hemmings Cruise In and a featured “calendar car” in a NAPA 2010 calendar, this Nomad is a fine example of one of Chevrolet's classic 1957 models.
