When Ferrari's Berlinetta Boxer was introduced it had big shoes to the fill—the 365 GTB/4 aka Daytona Coupe. Adding to pressure it would be the first, officially, Ferrari mid-engine street car. Though the Dino had been produced for a number a years, it “officially” wasn't a Ferrari. Ferrari knew they had to get it right.

What was the most important thing the new Ferrari needed? 12 cylinders. This tradition was linked to the success of Ferrari's flat-12 engines in F1 and sports cars, the new Berlinlinetta would have a flat 12 or “boxer” motor. A new Ferrari legend was born.
In 1981 the “I” version was introduced. “I” stands for fuel injection. A Busch K-Jetronic CIS system replaced the array of Weber carburetors. A Magneti Marelli Dinoplex electronic ignition replaced the mechanical “points” system. These changes were done for improved drivability and reliability.

What we are offering for auction is among the last of the 2, 323 BB's produced. Our BBi is a European version. First sold in Switzerland, there are no 5 mph bumpers, catalytic converters, or secondary air injection system. The BBi comes with complete documentation and a rare interior option. Our BBi is one of 27 with Ermenegildo Zenga wool clothed seats, headliner and door panels. In 2023 the engine was removed and refreshed.

In the world exotic supercars the BBi is a great value. As today's hypercars move to more exotic power plants all 12 cylinder ICE's will rise in value. Buying the one of Ferrari's first mid-engine 12 cylinder street cars, would be smart move.
