1978 Porsche 911SC 2-Door Coupe
Chassis No. 9118202347
Porsche first offered the 911SC (Super Carrera) for the 1978 model year. It was available through 1983 in both standard coupe and Targa versions. Power was supplied by a fuel-injected 180hp 3.0-litre flat-six engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Spec and horsepower was increased throughout the model run. The 911SC used the wider body of the 911 Carrera. Car & Driver said in 1978, “It is the fastest normally-aspirated Porsche, 0–60, that we have ever driven. It does the quarter-mile in 14.8 seconds at 94 miles per hour, and the factory (which is usually conservative in these things) rates its top speed at 136.”
While competitors have come and gone, the 911 has lived through oil crises, economic downturns, automation (until 1997 the car was still largely hand-built), the rise of the Japanese car industry, ever-tightening safety and emission standards, and the threat of corporate takeover. Even Porsche thought it might not last forever; introducing the front-engine water-cooled 928 in 1978 as an eventual replacement. Porsche was wrong, too, as the 928 was cancelled after its 17th season. To many, the 911 remains the quintessential German sports car; arguably one of the best
sports cars ever made.
According to the consigner, this car was purchased used by a physician on July 7, 1988 from German Auto Haus, Inc., in Burnt Hills, New York. The odometer at the time read 15,959 miles. The car retains is original engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. In addition, it has power windows and the optional sunroof.
In June of 2025, the car received a complete professional interior and exterior detailing and in August, routine maintenance was performed by a professional German auto specialist. The service included 4 new Michelin tires, a new battery, miscellaneous maintenance items, and New York State inspection and re-registration. Supporting paperwork accompanies the sale.
